Each year International Women’s Day sees thousands of events – global gatherings, conferences, awards, exhibitions, festivals, fun runs, corporate events, concert performances, speaking events, online digital gatherings and more. Events are held by women’s networks, corporations, charities, educational institutions, government bodies, political parties, the media and further communities.
Free workshop session tomorrow afternoon for International Women’s Day 2017. This is a free event for girls to make their own toolbox and will be an excellent opportunity to learn some basic skills, make new friends, find out what is happening at the Livesey Exchange and go home with your own toolbox!
The session is open from 4pm – 8pm at the Livesey Exchange, Ledbury Estate, Bird in Bush Road SE15 1QP.

Consultation on the Mayor’s Guide for Estate Regeneration is due to close on March 14 and a cross London campaign has begun to defend estates facing regeneration – Demolition Watch ; this is the website .
At the moment there is one major demand being put to the Mayor – that there must be a ballot of estate residents, to approve any regeneration proposals.
A ballot is an elementary protection of estate resident’s interests and the very least that should be required before any regeneration goes ahead. You can help secure estate ballots by doing two things;
1/by signing this petition;
2/by submitting a question to our GLA representative, Florence Eshalomi, to be put to the Mayor at his public question time. There is a model question below and it can be sent to Florence.Eshalomi@london.gov.uk, asking her to submit it for his question time.
There is little doubt that more and more estates are being lined up for regeneration and we must get effective protection of estate residents in place, so please help.

The Mayor has said regeneration should “only take place where there is resident support”. Official Guidance on Estate Regeneration (published December 2016) says that, where the proposals include demolition of tenants and leaseholders’ homes, a vote can be ‘appropriate’ to demonstrate the required ‘majority resident support’.

Home Library Service:
The Home Library Service has a direct beneficial impact on the wellbeing of the residents that we serve, many of whom are housebound and have little other social contact. The service is free of charge for Southwark residents who are not able to get to their local library. Once a month our staff will deliver library items directly to a resident’s home, or to their sheltered unit or nursing home. This service is ideal for those with disabilities (children and adults), older people and their carers, and people who cannot visit the library due to accident or illness. The home library service offers all types of library materials (books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray, books on cassette and CD) and free reservations on all library stock. Invitation to a workshop for people from Tenant and Resident Associations in Southwark Council
Please reply to Kevin Dykes (contact details below) to say if you would like to attend the workshop. If there is no space this time we will keep you informed of future opportunities to get involved.
The small group workshop will be for about 10 people to have an in depth discussion about child sexual exploitation. Everyone will have the chance to talk about their ideas.
The government has said that the harmful effects of child sexual exploitation are serious and far-reaching for victims, their families and wider communities. The ideal is therefore to prevent the abuse happening in the first place.
To prevent the abuse happening in the first place we need to educate young people, parents & carers, and all of the local community.
Southwark Council is determined to educate people about child sexual exploitation, so that we all know the things to look out for and where to report concerns.
We would like your help to work out how to do this, and to work on the role the tenant and resident associations can play.

Elderly and vulnerable residents
Southwark and Lambeth Councils have teamed up to deliver the Lambeth and Southwark Winter Well-Being (LSWWB) programme to help more vulnerable residents stay safe and well in their own homes and reduce re-admissions to hospital.
The programme includes three main areas:
Refuse collection
During this period of bad weather, we are attempting to collect household waste and recycling as normal.
However, due to the severe weather conditions there may be some properties where we are unable to make a collection. If this happens at your property, please be assured that your collection will be rescheduled and undertaken as soon as possible, once the weather improves.
Unless you think that it is only your waste that has not been collected and that your neighbours’ waste has been removed, there is no need to call the Council to report the issue as our crews will keep detailed records of roads where collections could not take place.
Parks
During icy and snowy weather the parks service will endeavour to open the locked parks by 7.30 am, but please bear with us during difficult weather conditions. We grit pathways in our parks on a priority basis, gritting main pedestrian and commuter/school routes first.
Please note that in extreme weather car parks and carriageways may remain closed to vehicles. Please take extra care after dark and try to only use main, pedestrian street routes if at all possible.
Rough sleepers
