Days of Poland Festival , 9th May

Every year in May, Potters Fields park, becomes the setting for the ‘Days of Poland’ event in the United Kingdom. This Polish festival, organised by 2SistersPR, is held to celebrate Polish culture in the UK. London residents and visitors are introduced to traditional and contemporary Polish folk music, arts and tasty cuisine. This FREE family friendly festival includes a variety of attractions for children and adults, including face painting, giant bubble shows, Polish national dances and live music. The performers of this year festival are three of the best Polish folk groups from London Karolinka, Orleta and Mazury.

This year the festival will be held on Saturday, 9th of May. The performances on the stage will start at 13:00.

Further to an award from the Bermondsey Square Community Fund, the Friends of Southwark Park will be running a free screening of three South-East London films at the Shortwave Cinema 10 Bermondsey Square, London SE1 3UN on Thursday 21st May from 2pm-5pm

The programme includes:

‘Wellbeloved’ (2014) directed by Stewart Morgan. The reputation of the steak pie has become diminished. It is time to rediscover the essential ingredients of this staple of traditional British cuisine. It is time to go to Deptford, South-East London.

‘It’s Our Park’ (2014) directed by Stewart Morgan for The Friends of Southwark Park to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Southwark Park Act 1864. Filmed largely in the park during last summer, it also contains some recently discovered footage of the old lido and other historic images.

‘We Was All One’ (1972) directed by Ken Ashton for Thames TV, which looks at the environment and lives of south Londoners some 40 years ago. Of special interest are vivid scenes of Bermondsey, including the community enjoying themselves in the Hand and Marigold pub, nearby Bermondsey Square. The documentary won the prestigious Prix D’Italia and was produced by Jeremy Isaacs. We hope cameraman Mike Doods will be joining us for the afternoon.

Ages has been written by Alexandra Wood and features music from the newly formed London Community Gospel Choir. The play is inspired by the stories of over 200 people who took part in research workshops and debates over the past year
around the theme of ageing.
The show will run at a new space, The Old Vic Workrooms, which has been established in a disused college in Bermondsey. The space offers opportunities for local community work, educational programmes and emerging professionals, as well
as hosting the community productions.
Ages runs until May 10th, with the exception of May 1st and 8th; tickets are free. Many shows have sold out
