Aylesbury Estate Residents Fight ‘Social Cleansing’

Residents of the Aylesbury Estate, unwillingly famous for its Channel 4 ident, are at the centre of a regeneration row with Southwark Council.

Like its now-demolished neighbour, the Heygate Estate, residents at the Aylesbury Estate are losing their homes in a deal between the local authority and Notting Hill Housing (NHH). Southwark calls it regeneration, the residents call it social cleansing.

The Tower of London is one of the world’s most famous fortresses and has seen service as royal palace, prison, armoury and even a zoo. The ancient stones hold within them dark secrets, as fortified vaults shine with priceless jewels and historic uniformed Beefeaters stroll the grounds. Situated in Central London, just a stone’s throw from the River Thames, the Tower of London is one of the city’s premier attractions.

FREE tickets can only be booked in person at the Annual General Meeting on 17th March in Tabard Community Hall.

Keeping Warm and Well in Winter.

This winter 2014/15 Age UK Lewisham and Southwark is working hard with Age UK Lambeth to help older people keep warm and well throughout the winter in a number of ways. During the Warm & Well in Winter project we will be providing the following services in Southwark:

  • We distribute winter packs, containing blankets, thermos mugs, gloves, thermometers and recipes booklet to keep vulnerable older people warm.
  • Our handypeople provide help with practical tasks around the home.
  • We offer shopping support so those with mobility issues can get what they need.
