Join Future Assembly and Ovalhouse for a workshop for TEENS and OVER 60s to imagine the future of London and the UK, and help bring a positive voice to the post-Referendum debate.

Future Assembly and Ovalhouse are hosting a two-day public workshop on the future of London and the UK in the next 10 years. WIRED Creative Fellow Annette Mees will lead a collaborative and interactive session. The stories we tell about the future impact our actions in the present. What do you imagine for the year 2026?

Future Assembly brings together everyday people to create and share extraordinary ideas about the future.

After Brexit, a group  came together committed to using the arts to create inclusive dialogue. The result is a project bringing together teenagers and over-60s in London, Exeter, Ipswich, Liverpool and Newcastle to co-create visions of the future of the country.

To start the debate, they are holding 5 ‘Future Assemblies’ across the country, bringing teens and over-60s together at creative workshops to share ideas, hopes and aspirations. In a two-day intensive Future/Change Lab they will use various tools to co-create a vision of the kind of the futures we want to happen 10 years from now.

The ideas will be turned into artworks, videos, GIFs and a book, to help explore how we can transform our world over the next 10 years and co-create the best possible nation for all.

Thy are also looking for a broad mix of views. We are looking to create as much diversity as possible within each of the Labs – socio-economical, political, gender, 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants and those whose families have been on this island for longer.

Who is leading The Future Assembly?
The project has been initiated by Annette Mees, Creative Fellow for Wired / The Space and Abby Nocon, Creative Futurist. It is based on a cross continent project in development called the Almanac of the Future, where they brings together 15 year olds with 65 year olds to imagine the future 50 years. They will be joined by a local artist.

What kind of people are you looking for?
We are not looking for any particular ‘type’ of people. The people who take part will be the right people. If you are interested in making the future then we are looking for you!
We are looking for a roughly equal mix of teenagers and over 60s.
We are looking for a broad mix of views. We are looking to create as much diversity as possible within each of the Labs – socio-economical, political, gender, 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants and those whose families have been on this island for longer.

Do I have to be available for both days?
Preference will be given to people who are able to commit to the workshop for both days, but let us know and we’ll see what we can do!

Will I have a good time?
Yes! You’ll get to do lots of talking and be creative. We’ll provide lunch on both days and make sure there is plenty of tea, coffee and soft drinks. Here are some quotes from our Liverpool Assembly:

This is a free event. It won’t cost you anything!

Southwark Tenant Conference 2016

This year’s conference will be at 9am – 5pm on Saturday 15th October 2016. This will take place at the William Booth College, Champion Park, London SE5 8BG.

The conference has been run for the last seventeen years. It provides residents who live in Southwark council managed properties with an opportunity to meet their peers, council officers, councilors to discuss and discuss key issues affecting their homes.

The theme for this year’s event is the housing crisis in London.

The event programme will include the following:

  • Guest speaker – to be announced
  • Workshops on the following topics: Youth Involvement, South London Cares, Regeneration and Universal Credit.
  • Question Time Debate – featuring councillors and senior council officers.
  • A ‘market place’ with stalls. Representatives from the council contractors and other service providers will be available in this area
  • Entertainment provided by the Recycled Teenagers dance group.
  • Lunch and raffle

Local traffic and its impact on air quality have long been a concern to many local businesses and residents.  As the London Bridge redevelopment work changes focus from St Thomas St to the south of the railway line to Tooley St to the North these issues will again be highlighted.  Grange Ward councillor Damian O’Brien and others have been working hard over the past few months to bring the various bodies who dictate traffic management issues together before a public meeting in an attempt to find some strategy for improving the present deeply unsatisfactory situation.  Below is his invitation to all to attend.  We are pleased to relay this invitation and would urge anyone concerned with the current situation to try and attend.

Subject: Invitation to have your say about traffic planning in your area

Hello

Transport and traffic flow issues around Bermondsey and London Bridge have been the cause of much discussion over the years. Residents and community groups often feel that all the different agencies operate in isolation to each other.

I am arranging a meeting to bring together all the interested parties. The specific objective is to agree how to create a traffic management plan for the area between Tooley Street, Borough High Street, Great Dover Street and Tower Bridge Road (if the group feel this is the right boundary).

Transport for London, Network Rail, Southwark Council, Team London Bridge and Guy’s Hospital have already confirmed their attendance and will give a short presentation to the audience whose input will be critical.

With this in mind, I would like to invite you to attend. Please bring along anyone else who you think would be interested in local transport issues. I hope as many interested groups in the area as possible, including schools and community groups, come along and have their say.

Southwark Council Apprenticeships, drop-in session, 24th August

Hi all,

Southwark Council will be holding an event at the Peckham Job Centre Plus promoting up and coming apprenticeship opportunities within the organisation.

Where: Peckham Jobcentre Plus 24-26 Peckham High Street, Peckham, London, SE15 5DS

Date and Time: Wednesday 24 August 2016, 10.30am-1pm.

The councils Customer Contact Centre will shortly be advertising 10/12 apprenticeship positions. 1 year fixed term contracts with a starting salary of £18,555 per annum. Apprentices will achieve a Level 3 qualification in Housing Practice (Chartered Institute of Housing nationally recognised qualification)

The drop in session will give potential applicants a chance to speak with current apprentices/managers to receive some information and advice on applications and how to register to receive future job notifications.

Applicants must..

  • Be 16+ years (no upper age limit)
  • Have 5 GCSES or equivalent including English and Maths A-C grade (overseas qualifications recognised) and have copies of the original certificates
  • Be able to work fulltime (36hrs per week)
