Celebrate the Jubilee!
Communities across Southwark will join the celebrations to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We have approved 63 applications for street parties, are hosting nine park celebrations and funded 29 celebrations on estates.
Jubilee Beacons will also be lit throughout Britain and the Commonwealth to mark the occasion, starting on 2 June. In Southwark, the Mayor will light a beacon on One Tree Hill on Thursday evening, 2 June.
Join celebrations in Elephant & Castle
Castle Square and Elephant Park will host free street parties and celebrations throughout the extended bank holiday weekend from 2 to 5 June. Expect great food, music, performances, arts and crafts and a whole of fun!

Maltby Street Market, in SE1, will host the UK’s first Cleaner Air Market, on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June from 11am to 5pm. There will be clean air workshops, as well as the usual offer of excellent shops, stalls and amazing street food.

Our waste and recycling partner, Veolia, has been awarded over £16 million to bring a low-carbon heat network to a new area of Southwark. This is expected to deliver 11,100 tonnes of carbon savings every year. The network will supply heating and hot water to eleven estates and five schools that currently depend on gas boilers.
On Friday 3 June, we will remember the eight people who tragically lost their lives, and all those affected by the terror attacks in London Bridge and Borough, five years ago. A service will be held at Southwark Cathedral at 2.30pm, followed by the unveiling of a plaque in honour and memory of those who died and were injured. We will also remember all those who helped the victims and community respond to, and recover from, the horrific incident.
